Rules and Regulations for saying “I Do” in the Turks & Caicos Islands

You must live in the Turks and Caicos Islands a minimum of 48 hours before applying for the marriage license.

There is a period of 2 to 4 weeks after the wedding to obtain the wedding certificate; NILA Destinations takes care of mailing it to your home address.

Original Documents to be produced in person are:

  • Passport
  • Birth Certificate
  • Proof of Status – if single a sworn affidavit is required.
  • If one of the parties is a divorcee, then proof of Decree Absolute is required, either the original or a notarized copy, sealed by the Clerk of the Court.
  • In the case of a Widow/Widower the Death Certificate of the previous spouse is required.

You need to also provide colour photocopies of all original documents. All copies of documents need to be certified by a notary and will be kept by the officiant for the application to be processed.

Other things to note:

  • If you have changed your name by Deed Poll or Adoption then proof is required.
  • If you are under the age of 21 years then evidence is required as consent of one or both parents or guardian, in the form of an affidavit stamped by the Notary Public.
  • The bride and groom must not be within the prohibited degree of relationships to each other.
